In most US growing zones you will have a last frost date in the spring and a first frost date in the fall. Cold hearty crops are typically the first to go out into the garden in the spring and last to harvest in the fall. The vegetables listed in this quick guide are considered cold-tolerant but not necessarily frost tolerant. They can handle being exposed to a light or hard frost for short periods of time. Season extenders such as frost cloth or closhes can give you a few degrees of additional warmth. See my post on Extending Your Growing Season to learn more about season extenders!
