Hi, my name is Abby and I live on a homestead in northern Minnesota. I welcome you to join me on this homesteading journey. I’ve done the research for you. Let’s see where this goes together. Besides being a mother of two sweet boys, my biggest passion is gardening. I don’t have a family milk cow, I don’t have goats or pigs. I am here where I am in my homesteading journey. For the past two years, my family has lived on a 10-acre piece of property in rural, Northern Minnesota. We have been on a journey of discovering what a fulfilling life looks like for us. This process felt guided by a desire to try and be producers rather than constant consumers. For me, it’s about slowing down, connecting with the earth, and learning to be a producer for our family. Ultimately, this leads us to where we are now.
We moved our family from a major city to a small town, far past suburbia. To begin, we started a garden from scratch which has grown over the years to 2,000 sq ft. I grow and preserve vegetables for my family to enjoy year-round. In addition to growing produce, I bake all things bread and love to cook from scratch. If I’m not in the garden or kitchen, you’ll most likely find me with a crochet project on my lap or playing with my boys.
It took a lot of research, experimentation, and practice, to get here. I have come to realize that going back to our roots and learning new (sometimes very old) skills can bring us so much fulfillment and satisfaction in our modern lives. Whether you have a sprawling backyard or a small balcony, you can learn to grow your own food and preserve it for the months ahead.
My intent here is to share with you what I’ve learned and inspire you to dig in and find the roots of your joy and start growing!
